Deputy President William Ruto has mourned the death of High Priest Shem Shamalla of the African Church of the Holy Spirit, Kakamega.
Ruto said on Thursday in his message of condolences to the family of Shamalla that he was a faith leader with steadfast religious credence.
“His sermons were always powerful, enriching and educative,” Ruto said.
“Our prayers to the Shamalla family, the church, and the people of Malava during this painful time of mourning. Rest In Peace, my friend.”
Bishop Samson Khalwale, who is the church’s secretary confirmed his death, saying that Shamalla died on Wednesday morning after a short illness.
He died at the age of 84 and will be laid to rest on Saturday, October 30 at his home in Malava, according to Bishop Khalwale.
Last month, the DP met with the late Shamalla during his visit to the Western region as he campaigns for his 2022 presidential bid.
When he visited the church, the DP gifted Shamalla a Suzuki Escudo, a sport utility vehicle that he said was to help him to navigate the area as he preaches the gospel.
Shamalla was also on the headlines in the country as he urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to end his differences with Ruto and embrace a handshake for the benefit of the country.
He was also seen on different occasions at the DP’s home in Sugoi, Uasin Gishu County.
Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale among other leaders have also eulogised Shammala.
Khalwale said that Shamalla was a friend, a supporter, and a well-wisher.
“You had already made your choice and you had shown you're faithful the way. Fare thee well Kuka,” Khalwale said.
