Imagine you have been involved in a motor accident, not a fatal one thankfully, but your car is damaged and will need serious repairs.
You get in touch with your insurance company, and they tell you your car is not in their books, basically, your insurance is non-existent.
You try to call your agent or broker and they cannot be reached. What would you do?
This scenario has played out many times. Most insurance agents and brokers are proper professionals and they do serve their customers well, however, we do have a few bad apples.
Customers are at the centre of the insurance industry and therefore, it is important for us at AKI to ensure they are empowered.
Motor insurance customers can today verify the status of the motor insurance certificates the moment they receive it by dialling *352# or by downloading the AKI Verification APP from Google Play Store or iOS App Store.
The verification will inform you that your insurance is either active, expired, cancelled or invalid.
If the certificate is invalid, you should get in touch with the Association of Kenya Insurers (@AKI_Kenya)
The Association of Kenya Insurers introduced digital motor insurance certificates in September 2019.
The digital motor insurance certificate appearance and details are like the physical certificates.
The only difference is that they are transmitted to customers via digital channels thus making it more convenient.
This shift to digital certificates has helped curb motor insurance fraud as cases of double insurance, fake certificates and stolen insurance certificates have been drastically reduced.
