Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has directed that all police officers on leave should report back to work.
All officers on leave and off duty are now required to report to work on or before November 15.
Regional police bosses have been instructed to ensure the order is implemented.
This come after an earlier order by president Uhuru Kenyatta for security agencies to be vigilant over instability in the region.
The country has about 120,000 officers drawn from regular police, APs, GSU and DCI. At any given time, about 20,000 police officers are on leave, some including sick leave.
Uhuru directed internal security institutions to heighten vigilance and surveillance across the country following the unfolding security situation.
The Head of State gave the instructions during Friday's National Security Council meeting.
Uhuru gave the directive even as police officers put Sh50m bounty on five terror suspects.
The police put the bounty on missing terror convict Elgiva Bwire, Salim Rashid Mohammed, Mohammad Abubakar, Barigi Abdikadir Haila and Trevor Ndwiga.
Tales of Bwire took a new twist after the state announced he had gone underground and described him as armed and dangerous.
According to DCI, Bwire, either joined terror groups, including al Shabaab and ISIS, or went underground to plan attacks.
After his arrest, he confessed to being a terrorist and a member of the al-Shabaab terror group.
Elgiva attended primary school in Dandora and disappeared from home in February 2010 until a year later.
