Three miners who were still trapped in the Abimbo gold mine accident in Bondo, Siaya county have been rescued.
Bondo Sub county police commander Roseline Chebosho said they were rescued from the mines at 2 am Wednesday.
Philip Ogutu, Victor Otieno and Jack Abonyo were taken to Bondo Sub county hospital for treatment.
This brings to seven, the total number of those who have been rescued alive from the mines that collapsed on Friday.
One person is still trapped and efforts to get him out are ongoing, Chebosho said.
According to the OCPD, 10 miners were at the site when the walls of the shaft caved in on December 2.
Two miners were successfully evacuated immediately after the accident.
The rescue operations, hampered by slow response and lack of proper and effective equipment saw miners resort to use of crude tools to try to save the lives of their colleagues who were still trapped beneath the rubble.
