Over 20 Bungoma journalists were on Friday trained on peace and security ahead of 2022 elections.
This is to enable them to be safe and avoid bias when writing stories.
The training which took place on Thursday and Friday was facilitated by African Women and Child Feature Service.
Programs manager Ruth Omukhango urged Journalists to stick to media law and ethics to avoid being compromised by politicians.
Omukhango added that many journalists have been exposed to harassment and threats from politicians, something that makes them shy off from covering political stories.
“During elections I am humbly requesting the Media council of Kenya and other Journalistic bodies fighting for their interests to support them and be close with them during elections,” she added.
Om women leadership, Omukhango urged women to come out in huge numbers and compete with men in vying elective positions.
“Women have been neglected and always threatened whenever they show interest in vying for political positions, I ask them to vie come 2022,” she said.
She noted that during elections women undergo sexual harassment asking relevant bodies to come and protect them during elections.
She also asked media house policy management to give more airtime on TV, radio, digital and print media an airtime for women who want to contest for various seats to express and explain the agenda.
“Editors in various media organizations should also give airtime for women to express their agenda,” she urged.
