We won't beg anyone to accommodate Mt Kenya region - Muturi

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has said the Mt Kenya region will not beg any leader to have them in his or her camp.

In a statement on Tuesday, Muturi reiterated that the Mt Kenya region is not only seeking the deputy president slot but also the country's top seat.

The presidential aspirant said the region has able leaders who can lead the country.

"Those saying that they're looking for a running mate from the mountain should know we can produce the president, and they deputize as well. We're not going to beg anyone to accommodate us," the Speaker tweeted.

Earlier on, the  Speaker said the Mt Kenya region is still united and that the ongoing differences are not personal.

"Politicians will exchange words in public but behind the scenes, they eat and laugh together.

"President Uhuru Kenyatta shook hands with Hon Raila Odinga despite having disagreements," Muturi said at a meeting with Maendeleo ya Wanawake group in Kiambu.

Muturi said the Mt Kenya region should be respected even as presidential leaders visit the region in the hunt for votes.

He urged local residents to stick with their leaders and unite as the country heads to the August 9, elections

"With our people's support and when united, they will respect us and see our value. They will realize we can still lead this country," he added.
