Former Foreign Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary Ababu Namwamba is among Kenyan officials attending the burial of the King of the Iteso Emorimor Augustine Lemukol Papa Osuban in Serere in Eastern Uganda.
Lemukol who died on February 5 will be buried on Saturday.
Ababu’s presence during the burial may be his first assignment following his appointment to Deputy President William Ruto's campaign secretariat as head of international relations.
The former CAS was accompanied by former Teso South MP Mary Emase, Nambale MP and Busia governor aspirant John Bunyasi, Busia women representative Elizabeth Juma, Busia Roads chief executive Okwara Ekirapa, deputy county revenue director Joseph Okole, among other delegates from Teso North and Teso South sub-counties.
There are approximately five million members of the Iteso community spread across Kenya and Uganda, occupying more than ten districts in the two countries.
Lemukol died on February 5 while undergoing treatment at Mulago National Hospital in Kampala.
He had been transferred to the facility from Soroti Regional Hospital where he had earlier on been admitted with Covid-19 related complications. He was 88.
Iteso Cultural Union Chairman and prominent businessman Sande Emolot took charge of the leadership of the Iteso in an acting capacity following the death of Lemukol.
Lemukol was elected King in 2000 and has been steadfast in promoting agriculture in the Teso region.
He will be remembered for his advocacy in ensuring that every home in Teso land has at least one fruit tree.
Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni accorded the King an official burial.
Arrangements to elect a new King will begin after the burial.
