President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered all boda boda riders to be registered afresh.
Speaking on Tuesday, the Head of State also directed a crackdown on all rogue boda boda riders across the country.
"I did give instructions and I have ordered all boda boda operators starting here in Nairobi and moving across the country to be registered afresh," the President said.
"A boda boda is not a licence to strip a woman. There should never be a repeat of what happened on Friday. This is a blight on the whole Kenyan society."
He cautioned leaders against politicising the issue.
Uhuru spoke at Kenya School of Government (KSG) in Nairobi at an event to mark International Women’s Day on Tuesday.
This follows Friday’s incident where a group of rogue riders attacked and molested a female driver in road rage after an accident.
“It is a disheartening thing to see and it’s only one among many others that have occurred across this country and we must be honest to each other,” the President said.
Uhuru said he knows some people will try to politicize the issue and claim the government is hurting small business people in the country.
He said the government has helped the industry grow more than any other through various measures including reduced purchase prices.
“We applaud the young men and women rely on these motorcycles for a living,” he said.
Police have so far arrested over 200 riders in Nairobi CBD as a crackdown on the sector intensifies following the sexual assault of female motorists along Wangari Maathai road.
Police IG Hillary Mutyambai said the operation against the bodaboda riders will continue to ensure sanity in the sector.
“We will not stop in this drive. We will ensure sanity reigns,” he said.
On Monday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i said he was “shocked and disgusted” by the video clip.
“We must protect our roads from such vile and reprehensible acts of aggression. I have asked our security agents to ensure all perpetrators of this dastardly act are swiftly apprehended and punished for their heinous act,” he said.
