Boda boda riders are being harassed for refusal or delay to sign a deal to fuel exclusively from petrol stations owned by the Egyptian Pharaoh, former LSK president Nelson Havi claims.

Havi has condemned the intensified crackdown on the boda boda riders in Nairobi terming it as 'charade'.

“The riders who assaulted a motorist are numbered and known. Arrest and charge them. Stop beguiling Kenyans,” said Havi.

On Tuesday, more than 200 riders were arrested in Nairobi CBD as the state intensified a crackdown following the assault on a female motorist along Wangari Maathai Road.

Inspector-General of Police Hilary Mutyambai said the operation against the boda boda riders would continue.

“We will not stop in this drive. We will ensure sanity reigns,” he said.

The assault on the motorist saw Kenyans start signing an online petition to compel the government to impose stiffer laws and reign in on rogue boda boda riders who are increasingly becoming a security threat to other road users.

On Tuesday, President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered all boda boda riders to be registered afresh.

"I did give instructions and I have ordered all boda boda operators starting here in Nairobi and moving across the country to be registered afresh," the President said.

"A boda boda is not a licence to strip a woman. There should never be a repeat of what happened on Friday. This is a blight on the whole Kenyan society."

He cautioned leaders against politicizing the issue.
