The Amani National Congress party has not reached a deal with any of its Kenya Kwanza partners not to field candidates in certain zones in the forthcoming general elections.
The party's national election board said in a statement on Thursday that the party will field candidates across the country in all elective positions constitutionally recognized in Kenya.
"May I reiterate that there is no zoning of areas for certain political parties...The ANC election board will promptly update members on any emerging electoral agreements among parties in Kenya Kwanza Alliance," chairman Salim Mohamed said.
"So far, we have received numerous applications from an immense number of aspirants and wish to encourage many more leaders to seize this opportunity and seek partnerships with ANC," Mohamed added.
This means parties within Kenya Kwanza - Deputy President William Ruto's UDA, Moses Wetangula's Ford Kenya and ANC will conduct their own primaries and face off in the August 9 general election
They will however field a joint presidential candidate.
The decision mirrors one reached by the ODM party which also abandoned the plan to hold joint primaries for parties within the Azimio coalition.
Just like ODM, ANC may have realized that joint primaries would trigger acrimony and hostility and lead to voter apathy.
