Marjan Hussein Marjan has been sworn in as the Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the IEBC.
The ceremony was presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome at the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
Speaking after the swearing-in, Marjan said he will ensure the elections proceed freely and fairly.
"We are in the middle of preparing for the elections, the commission is committing to conducting a free and fair election," he said.
CJ Koome on her part lauded the collaboration between IEBC and the Judicial Committee.
"I appreciate the ongoing collaboration between IEBC and the Judiciary Committee on Elections (JCE) in the area of electoral law reforms and the training of Judges and Judicial Officers on Election Dispute Resolution (EDR)." the CJ said.
This comes a week after he was appointed as the CEO with the Commissions Chairman Wafula Chebukati saying he was the most suitable.
Marjan beat four other candidates in the interview.
He is taking over Ezra Chiloba who was fired over alleged gross misconduct.
Marjan has held the post in an acting capacity since April 2019.
His rise started after he was appointed by Chebukati as the October 2017 repeat presidential poll coordinator.
The IEBC has also recently appointed three senior officials in its bid to prepare for polls.
Ruth Kalundu was appointed as the Deputy Commission Secretary (DCS) – Operations, Michael Ouma, as the Director of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) and Chrispine Otieno Owiye as the Director of Legal Services.
