The Meteorological department has announced that there will be a long rains season in the last week of this month.
In a statement on Friday, the Director for Meteorological services Stella Aura gave details on the onset and distribution of rainfall across the regions in the country.
“Several parts of the country are likely to experience significant rainfall during the fourth week of March. The season is expected to experience a normal onset with fair distribution over the whole country except for the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) regions of Northwest, Northeast and the Coast which will experience poor rainfall distribution."
Further, Aura said the March, April and May forecast issued in February indicates that enhanced rainfall was expected over the highlands west of the rift valley, the Lake Victoria basin, central and south rift valley, the north-west, the highlands west of the rift valley( including Nairobi County) and the southern lowlands.
The Director said average rainfall was expected over the North Eastern and coastal regions.
She added that there will be a fair distribution of rainfall in all parts of the country except the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands which will experience poor distribution.
The rainfall is expected to increase and spread all over the country by the end of March.
The northeastern regions will receive occasional rainfall by the end of March and the first week of April.
