Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government Fred Matiang’i has assured development partners of peaceful general elections.
In in his statement on Monday, Matiang’i said the government had put measures to ensure there will be peace during and after the August polls.
“Our meeting is held in the context of fostering those relations and ensuring that we work closely with our development partners. When there are issues to be raised including how we are preparing ourselves for the general elections we are able to be forth-coming with our partners,” Matiang’í said.
Matiang’i said the areas that are prone to violence during the elections will be monitored to ensure that there is no violence in the August polls.
He also said enough security officers had been deployed and trained in preparation for the August polls.
Matiang’a also said the National Cohesion and Integration Commission(NCIC) was ready to deal with any kind of incitement to violence.
Earlier this years, the government was urged to assign police officers to the National Cohesion and Integration Commission to help the agency respond quickly to hate speech cases.
The NCIC cautioned politicians against deceitful comments on the electoral process.
NCIC Commissioner Sam Kona said the recent remarks by different politicians on vote-rigging risk jeopardizing the political stability of the country.
