Ukrainians are on Friday set to organise a demonstration in Warsaw, Poland demanding the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine and equip its army with military aid.

A statement by the Ukrainian volunteer Journalists and Communicators initiative said the street action would go done at 5 pm local time at Warsaw's Palace of Culture and Science, Marszałkowskiej Street entrance.

The protests, whose rallying call is 'Stop promising, start acting!' is to demand immediate support for Ukraine in the war against Russia’s unconscionable aggression.

"Ukrainians and citizens of other European countries will take part in a special performance during the action," a statement by the media body said.

The number of victims among the civilian population of Ukraine is growing by the hour as Russia sustains air and ground assault on the besieged but resilient country.

Ukraine's State Emergency Service said on March 2 that more than 2,000 civilians have died but has not released any figures since.

The UN's human rights office announced on March 19 that 847 civilians had died in Ukraine since February 24, including 155 men, 119 women, 21 boys and seven girls.

There has, however, been slow decision-making by western countries, as well as unwillingness to provide air defense and other urgently needed equipment to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Organizers of the Warsaw demonstrations said the action is meant to remind politicians that it is not their promises that will help Ukraine win the war, but real weapons delivered to Ukraine.

"NATO, the EU, and all countries that support a free Ukraine – enough promises, it's time to act! Ukraine is the shield of Europe right now and needs your decisive support.

"And these weapons should be sent now, not in a few weeks or months," they said.

The demonstration was approved by the Warsaw Town Hall, the group affirmed.

The group gave a list of demands they want met:

  • More support in closing the skies over Ukraine from Russian attacks and more weapons for Ukraine.
  • NATO and EU member states to provide Ukraine with the weapons needed to protect Ukraine's sky from Russian bombs and missiles, including medium-range and long-range surface-to-air missile systems.
  • More sanctions on the Putin Regime’s Russian Federation and the oligarchs who keep Putin in power,  enabling his war crimes – a complete severance of economic ties: every euro that goes into the Kremlin's pockets is used to kill Ukrainians.
  • A full EU oil and gas embargo on Russia.
