Isiolo Governor Mohamed Kuti endorses Nairobi County Assembly Majority Leader Abdi Guyo to succeed him at the August 9 polls, March 26, 2022.

Nairobi County Assembly Majority Leader Abdi Guyo has dropped his bid for Embakasi Central MP seat in favour of the Isiolo governor seat at the August polls.

The veteran city politician's bid got immediate boost after incumbent Isiolo governor Mohamed Kuti endorsed him for the seat in a surprise declaration that could change the political landscape in the county.

"I am going for the governor of Isiolo. I believe I have what it takes to take our county to the next level," Guyo announced on Saturday.

Guyo has served for 15 years as Kayole's Matopeni/Spring Valley MCA for 15 years.

Kuti, a first term governor, opted not to defend his seat at the August 9 elections to back Guyo in an intricate deal brokered by elders.

Guyo, a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta, said he will seek the Isiolo gubernatorial seat on a Jubilee party ticket.

"Jubilee is my party and I cannot go anywhere else. We want to transform lives of our people. That is my aim for going for this seat," he told the Star moments after he was endorsed by Kuti.

Guyo had initially announced his interest in the Embakasi Central MP seat.

He had started popularising his bid to unseat incumbent area MP Benjamin Mwangi.

The Majority leader said he will focus on changing the lives of the residents who face numerous challenges ranging from drought to famine.

"We want to ensure our people have food, water and the basic necessities. We will continue to work on infrastructure and expand the road network. We are equal to the task,' Guyo said.
