Raila didn't want to be president, it's out of pressure, Okango says

He said he was certain that Kalonzo and Raila will win this election.

Secretary generals from political parties forming the Azimio La Umoja Movement signed the deal to have the name of the coalition changed.

KANU Secretary Political Affairs Frederick Okango has said it is Kenyans who want ODM Party leader Raila Odinga to be president.

According to him, Raila just bowed to pressure from Kenyans when he declared his presidential ambitions.

In an interview on Citizen TV on Monday, Okango said he was certain that Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Raila will win this election.

“Kalonzo has told the Kenyans that they are ready to win the August polls,” Okango said.

He said that the reason why Raila is called baba it's because he roots for peace and unity.

"Even (Narc Kenya leader Martha) Karua said that Raila is called baba because he supports devolution, peace and unity. All those things that come with fatherliness," Okango said.

"If we continue campaigning like we are doing right now, I do not see a situation that will make us not win the elections."

Further, he said that consensus is important and emphasized that Raila is the Azimio –One Kenya Presidential flag bearer.

“Our candidate for the presidential post is Raila Odinga, there is no doubt,” Okango said.

Further, he said that when it comes to fielding for other positions, they will be guided by the coalition.

“There are ways of fielding candidates in the coalition agreement,” Okango added.

In February, the ODM leader said he was reluctant to run for the presidency for the fifth time.

According to him, his decision to run for the presidency came after wide consultations with Kenyans despite losing the presidential elections thrice in a row.
