Violence marred ODM nominations in South Kabuoch ward, Ndhiwa constituency after a female aspirant claimed her supporters failed to participate in the exercise.

Aspirant Roselyn Oyoko argued that her supporters remained fearful after violence was meted on them during the party primaries.

Homarise Odote who was the chief agent of Oyoko in the nomination was attacked, assaulted and injured by goons who she claimed belonged to one of her opponents.

Odote was slashed on the head and left hand. The goons first hit her on the back with a rod.

The incident occurred at Ogando polling centre when a voting exercise was going on.

Speaking at Ndhiwa Sub County hospital where she was rushed for treatment, Odote said the goons looked like they had preplanned to attack them.

“They arrived in a probox matatu and came straight to me saying I must face the consequences over my political stand. One of them assaulted me with a rod before another one came with a panga and slashed me,” Odote said.

Odote was rushed to Pala Dispensary for treatment after she collapsed and became unconscious.

She was later transferred to Ndhiwa Sub County hospital where was stitched.

Aspirant Oyoko said her driver and youth were also injured during the incident.

Their vehicle was also pelted with stones and leading to the destruction of the windscreens.

“My driver was stabbed in the left hand as he tried to block the attacks. We reported the matter to Pala police post and Ndhiwa police station,” Oyoko said.

Oyoko levelled the violence at the incumbent Oscar Abote who she is competing for the ODM party ticket in the ward.

Oyoko claimed its Obote's supporters who attacked her agent.

Others in the race are Walter Adongo and Loyce Kawaka.

“Let the ODM elections board nullify this election because it was not free and fair. My supporters were scared and failed to participate in the exercise,” she said.

She called on ODM and police to take action against Obote for being behind the violent incident.

Oyoko wants Abote to take responsibility and foot the medical bills of the injured persons

When contacted, Abote dismissed the claims saying those who attack Odote were not his supporters but residents.

"They should not involve me in the attacks because I also suffered a similar incident after one of my supporters was attacked," Abote said.

He said he has been following rules and regulations governing elections and that's why he has been voted twice as MCA of South Kabuoch
