Radio Africa Group Head of Content Paul Ilado has reappointed Francis Openda as the Star public editor.

Openda, who doubles up as the Star's weekend and business editor, will adjudicate independently on any issues raised by readers over the editorial style or content of the Star.

"The Public Editor will not deal with requests for minor corrections as those should continue to be handled by the Star editors," he said.

"He will write a regular column for the Star in which he will respond to readers' issues raised after investigating and speaking to the individuals concerned."

Openda has previously held the position after he succeeded Kodi Barth.

Barth took over from Karen Rothmyer, the first Public Editor in East Africa.

The position is crucial in making the paper more accountable to its readers.

It is also important in improving the quality and depth of the Star paper in terms of content and reportage.

"This is a very important position because it gives the public an avenue to relate with media outlets and it is a channel through which they can send in their concerns and issues they feel and think are unethical," Openda said.

Openda is a seasoned Editor at Radio Africa Group, which runs a newspaper, radio and television stations and several online platforms.

He is a career journalists of more than 25 years experience with expertise in content generation and editing for print and digital media and communication strategies.

He holds a BSc in Information Science from Moi University and a Diploma in Journalism from the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication.
