Details have emerged of the big names that have been proposed for nominations to the two houses of Parliament by the country's major political parties.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto, and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga-led parties have nominated close allies and key party officials.
First on the Jubilee National Assembly list is Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege.
The ruling party has also nominated Kenyatta’s sister Kristina Pratt to the Senate.
Other Jubilee MP nominees are party chairman Nelson Dzuya, disability rights crusader Hanna Wanja Maina, ex-BBI Youth convener Alex Matere, Marsabit Woman Representative Safia Sheikh Adan and former Molo MP Njenga Mungai.
Apart from Pratt, Jubilee has also nominated current Senate Deputy Speaker Margaret Kamar to the Senate alongside Nairobi Governor Ann Kananu and anti-FGM activist Lina Jebiii Kilimo.
Isaac Githua has been fronted as a nominee representing the youth.
Raila’s ODM party has for its part fronted Suba South MP and Minority leader John Mbadi, Irene Mayaka, Nominated Senator Rosa Nyamunga and Busia woman MP Florence Mutua to the National Assembly.
The party also intends to reward two of its fierce youthful defenders Fikirini Katoi Kahindi and Hezena Lemaletian with seats in the Senate.
Kahindi was kicked out of Maasai Mara University and later at Pwani University where he was a student leader. He has been a rights crusader.
Lemaletian shot in the limelight after putting on a good show at the launch of the Azimio la Umoja national convention at Kasarani Stadium back in December last year.
The Samburu-born orator– famed as the Queen of the North, caused a sensation on social media with the courage she displayed in defending a Raila presidency. She is the reigning Miss Commonwealth Kenya.
Also on the ODM MPs’ list are Umulkher Harun Mohamed, Harold Kipchumba, Mary Mwami, Abdul Abdiwahab, Lucy Mwanzia, John Ketora, Mary Riungu, Evelyn Koech, and Eric Kiprotich.
For the Senate, the party has nominated Catherine Muma, presently the chairperson of its National Elections Board, alongside Beatrice Oyomo, Hamida Kibwana, and Betty Batuli while Nickson Ochieng and Crystal Kageni have been fronted as PWDs representatives.
Notable names in Ruto’s UDA National Assembly list include Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru and Starehe MP Charles Njagua alias Jaguar.
UDA secretary general Veronica Maina, Narok Woman Representative Roselinda Soipan Tuya, Bomet Woman Representative Joyce Korir, and Kajiado East MP Peris Tobiko are tipped for nomination to the Senate.
Others are Karen Nyamu, Miraj Abdulahi, Gloria Orwoba, Maureen Mutinda, Esther Anyieni, Aurelia Chepkirui, Raphael Adukan, Christine Santa, Esther Achieng Wasonga, Shungi Leila Nuru, and Jamhuri Guyo.
Ruto’s party has also nominated Sammy Leshore – who was gazetted to replace Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura before the latter obtained stay orders; and Elizabeth Wangui as PWD representatives.
Kalonzo’s Wiper party has fronted Shakila Abdalla (former MP and Wiper secretary general), Nominated Senator Sylvia Kasanga, and Eunice Siziga as top women nominees to the Senate.
TV47 anchor Elizabeth Mutuku is among the party’s nominees to the National Assembly and has been named alongside Lucas Wambua, Esther Saina Karbwali, and Dominic Keter.
Key figures in the Ford Kenya list for National Assembly nominees are Anab Gure, Christopher Mandu, Caren Nasimiyu, and Adrian Wabwire.
Millicent Abudho, Rose Kisiangani, Moureen Kemunto, and Fibi Nelima are on the list of Women nominees to the Senate while Dennis Wasike and Annabel Kianda are tipped to be youth representatives.
Senator Gideon Moi-led Kanu has named Conrad Thorpe, Betty Jebet, Abdulrahman Bafadhil, and Regina Changorok as National Assembly nominees.
The Senate list has the names of Betty Adera, Barbara Jerono Chesire, Maryann Mugo, Sintoyia Kasaine, and Jane Naini.
For Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC, the National Assembly list features Nominated Senator Petronila Were as well as Mudavadi handlers Kibisu Kabatesi and Moses Oburu.
Others are Joseph Hamisi Denar, Salim Mohamed Busaidy, Charles Chweya while Women Senator nominees are lawyer Harriet Chiggai, Margaret Ndanyi, Margaret Ntongai, and Josephine Gumato.
Mwangi Kiunjuri’s TSP has nominated Wambui Wamucii Kimathi (MP), and Gladys Muringo (Senate).
Mwangi wa Iria’s Usawa Kwa Wote has named James Mwangi Macharia (Wa Iria personal assistant), Mariam S Omar, and Alfayo Otuke with Jimmy Mwangi as youth nominee to the Senate.
Moses Kuria’s Chama Cha Kazi has fronted James Nage, Roselyne Wanjiku and Geoffrey Omenke as MP nominees.
IEBC on Wednesday invited Kenyans aggrieved by the list to submit their complaints, matters which are scheduled to be heard by the IEBC Dispute Resolution Committee and the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal from July 27 until August 6.
“Complaints relating to non-statutory requirements by members of the public, registered voters, and civil society shall be heard by the IEBC DRC sitting in Milimani law court,” IEBC said.
Complaints against the respective political parties by party members and officials are scheduled to be heard by the PPDT sitting in Nairobi, Eldoret Meru, Nyeri, Kisumu, Mombasa, Kakamega, and Nakuru.
