President Uhuru Kenyatta has taken a swipe at his deputy William Ruto accusing him of what he termed as "spreading blatant lies" to the people.

With only 12 days to August polls, Uhuru said Ruto cannot be trusted with the country's leadership.

The head of state said his deputy has been peddling lies and urged the people to stay united and not to be swayed by petty politics.

Referring to the BBI, Uhuru said that the Deputy President lied to the people and that the initiative was not good for them hence denying them more resources that could have brought equity of resources.

"Someone told you that BBI was meant to extend my stay, but I will be going home in a few days to come. The BBI was important to our people because it could have brought equity. People fight because of resources," he said.

The president also lambasted Ruto for lying to the people of Mombasa and Naivasha about the standard gauge Railway and the Inland container depot.

"Na nataka tuambiane ukweli sababu the truth shall set us free. Tumekua na rafiki yangu na mimi sichukii mtu yoyote hata kidogo, lakini sipendi mtu wa uongo.

"Wewe unaenda pale Mai Mahiu unawaambia tumejenga reli, alafu unaenda Mombasa unawambia wale walichukua bandari wakapeleka Naivasha. Mimi sipendi hawa watu wa uongo, tunataka watu wa haki."

The President also called for unity and peace in the country as the general elections near.

The president maintained that his stand is to unite the people of Kenya for the sake of peace.

Referring to the handshake between him and the former premier, the head of state said the handshake was meant to bring peace to the country.

"We decided to come together with Ruto in 2013 to seek peace and we got peace. Then I went to seek for Raila because of peace, was it wrong for me to do that?" Uhuru posed.

"We have had peace all along, we have stayed together, don't be fooled by petty politics, we don't want problems, we want Kenya to remain as one."

The head of state also urged the people to vote for Raila Odinga saying he has shown true statesmanship and can be trusted with the country's leadership in the coming general election.

He has also thanked the people of Nakuru for the overwhelming support that they gave the Jubilee government and for voting for him in both the 2013 and 2017 elections.

On his part, Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui thanked the president for making Nakuru an economic hub.

The launch of the station and ongoing construction of Lanet airport and Rironi-Mau Summit road will make Nakuru attract investment for the betterment of the county.

The rehabilitation of the Nakuru-Malaba meter gauge railway was to ensure a smooth transition of cargo from Mombasa to Malaba.

The Nakuru-Kisumu railway is approximately 220 km and was rehabilitated at a cost 3.8billion
