Two people were murdered in Kimwanga village, West Bukusu ward in Bungoma county on Saturday night.

One person died on the spot while the second died while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Bungoma town.

One of the victims was a security guard at a local bar while the second victim was a headteacher at Masielo Primary School.

Kamaeti OCPD Aggrey Makomere condemned the incident and asked residents to be vigilant and report suspicious individuals to police.

He said he received a distress call at 4am from the caretaker of the Vuta Pumzi bar stating that a security guard had been killed and the body left in a pool of blood.

"Immediately I received the call I moved very fast with my private vehicle to come and see what really happened. I found the teacher lying helpless as the watchman was in a pool of blood," Makomere said.

He said he took the initiative and rushed the teacher to hospital in Bungoma town but he was later pronounced death.

The police boss, however, said police officers in Bumula are alert to ensure that security is beefed up ahead of  Tuesday's election.

He said the assailants didn't take anything from the bar apart from their phones.

"I think this is a young gang that has developed in Kimaeti, they escaped with the phones to interfere with investigations," the OCPD said.

MCA Sospeter Nyongesa asked relevant authorities to move with speed and investigate the matter. He urged residents to be careful especially during this election season.

"I urge the police officers to conduct a speedy investigation and identify the killers. This is very unfortunate," he said.

The politician further called on residents to maintain peace before, during and after election.

"I don't know what was the intention of these people, but if it was because of politics, then a person behind this bizarre incident should be arrested and arraigned," he said.

Resident James Juma accused police officers at Kimwanga police station for laxity saying they are slow to respond to distress calls.

"The police officers that were deployed to help enhance security are always asleep. They act slowly whenever called upon. We want them to assure us of tight security ahead of Tuesday's polls," he said.

Bodies of the deceased were removed to Bungoma County Referral Hospital Mortuary as investigations into the murders continue.
