Kenyans have consumed manifesto’s from their potential leaders and are are currently making their choices on the ballot.
However, there is always some confusion when it comes to voting.
Here are some of the essentials that you will need to adhere to as you vote;
Carry your original Identification (ID) or Passport to your polling station.
This is the only key to you voting and to you showing that you have reached the age of voting; that is 18 years.
After biometric identification using the Kiems kit, you will be given six ballot papers.
The white ballot paper is for the presidential vote, MP(green), MCA(beige), senator(yellow), woman rep (purple) and blue for governor.
Before you can put a mark on the ballot papers, please ensure they are stamped at the back. This will help prevent any fake ballot paper that might have sneaked into the station.
Mark your preferred candidate using a tick or an X. Ensure that the mark is within the box and let it be one mark per ballot paper. Remember that you do not want to spoil the vote.
Fold your ballot paper vertically in the middle. Remember that your vote is your secret. So mark this ballot paper in secrecy. Let no one see who you have chosen.
Once you have folded the paper, cast your vote into the right ballot box.
Note that the white paper that had the presidential mark goes to the ballot box with a white lid.
Green goes to the ballot box with a green lid, beige goes to the ballot box with a beige lid. The yellow paper goes to the ballot box with a yellow lid. The same applies to purple paper which goes to the ballot box with a purple lid.
With the confusion of the colours, if unsure about where to drop the ballot paper, ask the election officials to direct you.
For those who cannot read and write, it is advisable to bring someone from home to assist. This person must also carry their national ID and must sign a form to that effect.
If this voter does not have someone from home, the polling agents will assist.
Make sure that your little finger is marked with a blue colour to indicate that you have cast your vote.
After voting, you are advised to leave the polling station and make way for others to also cast their ballots.
