Bobasi parliamentary seat vote-tallying exercise has been suspended temporarily following allegations of vote-rigging.

Voting tallying for other seats including the president is ongoing.

Police in Bobasi have arrested six election officers following the discovery of 20 old ballot boxes in the Sindagogue area.

The ballots were impounded by officers from Nyamache Police Station.

The area Sub-County Commander did not give a comment.

He instead referred journalists to the Constituency Returning Officer.

There were violent protests, mostly targeting the incumbent Innocent Obiri, with epithets, outside, Nyamache Tallying Centre following the discovery.

Similar protests took place outside the police station with protesters threatening to overrun the station.

They later walked to the Tallying Centre at Nyamache Boys where more ballot papers were discovered at a premise outside the Centre.

Candidates Yobesh Oyaro and Wilkins Nyangweso asked Iebc to nullify the poll over possible rigging.

They accused Obiri of an attempt to rig the poll.

One youth was injured in the ensuing melee.
