Ford Kenya Sabatia MP candidate Alex Kidake conceded defeat on Wednesday as tallying at Vokoli centre in Sabatia was still in progress.
Taking to his social media pages, Kidake congratulated Clement Sloya of UDA, who by the time of going to press was leading with more than 18,000 votes.
“My good people of Sabatia, we have walked this beautiful journey together. We have done our best and I believe the results that everyone got reflected their efforts,” Kidake said.
“You are my people. I love you all for the immense support that you gave me. We still live to fight another day.”
He congratulated Sloya and wished him all the best as he takes over as the next MP.
The incumbent was Alfred Agoi who joined the governor race in the hope of unseating Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo of ANC.
Sloya joined the race after the death of his brother Maclean Sloya who was vying for the Sabatia MP seat on ANC.
Ikumu Arafat (independent) also conceded defeat.
“I want to take this early opportunity to sincerely thank the good people of Sabatia for standing with me for the four years I've been interacting with them,” Arafat said.
“As we step into the future, I congratulate the incoming Sabatia MP Clement Sloya and wish him the best of luck as he embarks on a journey of steering Sabatia to greater heights of development and prosperity.”
He called on Sabatia residents to support Sloya as he takes over the office and accord him the respect and space to perform his role.
Ikumu said politics is not enmity, but a competition of ideas and a game of trust.
“To my supporters, we stand to fight the next day, we'll rise again, let's not give up, there's tomorrow, thanks for a good job,” he said.
Other candidates in the race have not yet made any official communication on the ongoing tallying.
