Marsabit Governor Mohamud Ali has successfully retained his seat after a race which attracted five other candidates.

Declaring the results, county returning officer Joseph Mukewa said that governor Mohamud polled a total of 38,803 votes to defeat his closest KANU candidate and former North-Horr MP Francis Chachu Ganya who got 28,279 votes.

Sunya Orre of ANC got 21,774 while Pius Yattani of UPIA managed 15,483 and Wario Guyo of Jubilee party got 744 votes.

In his acceptance speech, Governor Mohamud promised to complete several projects he initiated, indicating that he would not disappoint the electorate.

"I am grateful that you elected me for the second time to win this competitive election. I promise that I will always be at your service," he said.

He promised to serve them to the best of his ability and asked his opponents to join him in serving the residents.

"The election period is now over, we must come together and forge ahead in our tasks of building the county," he said.

UDA Senate candidate Mohamed Chute was also declared the winner in the senatorial race after garnering 41,760 votes, KANU'S candidate Adan Hassan Sheikh Sele had 23,206 votes, the incumbent Godana Hargura came fourth with 18,075 votes while ANC candidate Galgallo Abagaro got 18,586 votes.

Former Nominated senator and UDA women representative candidate Naomi Jillo Wako also won the seat after she go 30,831 votes against her closet opponent Gedia Adan Mamo who got 29,625 votes.

UDM candidate Nasra Ibrahim came third with 17,878 votes, and ANC Dibo Isaqo Umuro got 11,652 votes.
