The Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) secretary general, Francis Atwoli has denied allegations that he is resigning.
In a statement, Atwoli clarified that a meeting he had called for on Wednesday was to make arrangements for the burial of a member of Cotu who has passed on.
He rubbished claims that it was to prepare for his exit from the organisation, adding that he is serving his last term as head of Cotu.
"This is a sad moment for us following the death of Isiah Kubai who was the GS of BIFU. We have called for a meeting to conduct a fundraiser in preparation for the burial on Friday in Meru. Because you (Itumbi) come from those sides you should join us instead of peddling lies," Atwoli said.
"Further, matters COTU (K) leadership is a COTU (K) constitutional issue and not an Atwoli issue. As of now, I am in office serving my last term."
Atwoli was responding to claims by Digital startegist Dennis Itumbi that he had called for a meeting to step down from the trade union.
Itumbi claimed that the Cotu SG was also trying to force a successor in the emergency meeting he had called, but members had resisted the move by Atwoli.
"Hustler Nation Intelligence Bureau (HNIB) agents are reporting that COTU Secretary General, Francis Atwoli, has finally decided to take a backseat. However, he is trying to force a successor," read part of the Twitter message by Itumbi.
Atwoli has been an ardent supporter of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition and a huge supporter of Raila Odinga.
During campaigns to that led to the August 9 polls, Atwoli campaigned against Deputy President William Ruto.
Ruto was on Monday declared President-elect of the Republic of Kenya.
