Martha Karua accompanied by Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga ahead of her unveiling as Raila's running mate on March 16, 2022.

The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition has exuded confidence that they will emerge victorious in their impending presidential petition.

While addressing the media on Wednesday at the KICC, the coalition principals Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and running mate Martha Karua said their victory at the August 9 polls was just deferred.

"Ours is victory deferred but it's coming home and that's the message to everyone as we explore legal and constitutional avenues," Karua said.

She said they will not let Kenyans down.

The Azimio leaders spoke after what they termed a familiarization  meeting with Azimio elected leaders from across the country.

Kalonzo, the designate Chief Minister in the would-be Azimio administration said their resolve to attain the country's leadership remains unwavered.

"Nchi hii Kenya bado ni mapambano hadi haki ipatikane kwa wakenya (The struggle is still on until Kenyans get justice)," Kalonzo said.

He said their move to denounce the election results has gotten the attention of the world and they are all ready to ensure the country does not go the wrong way.

"Unfortunately this has happened because of what happened at Bomas of Kenya. The legal process continues, the political process also continues," he said.

The Azimio team has indicated that it will be heading to the Supreme Court to overturn President-elect William Ruto's win in the August 9 contest.

Raila on Tuesday termed the results as null and void and said they will explore all legal avenues to ensure the outcome of the election is reversed.

In the results declared Monday by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, Ruto garnered 7,176,141 votes representing 50.49 per cent of the final vote, while Raila received 6,942,930 votes translating to 48.85 per cent.

The Azimio leaders also insinuated that they would use the parliamentary process to overturn Ruto's win.

"Our figures show that we command the National Assembly.  In the Senate our competitors are up by one but in the National Assembly we command," Karua said.

The import of this is that Raila's team could be planning to move a motion of no confidence against Ruto in the event that their petition at the Supreme Court fails.

"We therefore after meeting, we must look and plan at how we are going to  execute our mandate and our members are taking that up," Karua said.

"The legal process continues, the political process also continues," Kalonzo affirmed.

The leaders did not take questions from the media.
