Members of Nairobi County Assembly allied to Azimio Thursday skipped the inauguration ceremony of Governor Johnson Sakaja despite having been invited.
The ward reps led by Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok said they deliberately avoided the occasion after learning that President-elect William Ruto would be in attendance.
"From the invitations we received we were not told he (Ruto) will be present,” he said.
However, Imwatok clarified that they don’t have any issue with Sakaja since their candidate Polycarp Igathe conceded defeat.
"We have no problem with the governor but as it currently stands in the presidency, we can’t share a podium with Ruto,” Imwatok said.
The Azimio MCAs maintained that their current president-elect remains Azimio Presidential candidate Raila Odinga until the matter is settled in court.
Raila filed a petition on Monday at the Supreme Court seeking to overturn Ruto's win.
The Deputy President was declared winner of the presidential contest on August 15 having garnered 7,176,141 votes (50.49 per cent) against Raila's 6,942,930 (48.85 per cent).
Raila claims the results were altered by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati.
Four commissioners denounced the results citing 'opaque' nature of their verification.
