A night impromptu visit to the Isiolo county referral hospital led to the shocking discovery of the county's health system.
After being sworn in, Isiolo Governor Abdi Hassan visited the facility at 11:50 pm and conducted a a lengthy assessment of all critical emergency departments at the hospital.
However, all was not well as he discovered only one doctor in the night shit.
"It was saddening to note that only one doctor was on duty, despite a good number being assigned in various work station especially the casualty department," Guyo said.
Making the situation worse, the pharmacy department was closed with no employee at the facility.
In attempt to streamline the issue, the Governor issued directives to the ICTRH MED-SUP and the current CEC health to compile a list of health workers who were supposed to be on duty but deliberately absconded for immediate disciplinary action.
"My administration will not condone laxity especially in all health facilities across the county," Guyo added.
In his manifesto which is anchored on 14 key points that will guide him in his first term, the Governor said he will prioritize health.
Guyo said elders will get free NHIF cover to ease access to health services. "The elderly need healthcare but have been abandoned."
He also said his regime will not tolerate tribalism.
"Isiolo is home to many communities from Meru, Borana, Samburu, Embu, Turkana, Karayu and Sakuye. Everyone will be treated equally because none is superior to the other," Guyo said.
The candidate further promised to cushion pastoral communities from the adverse effects of climate change.
Governor Guyo together with his Deputy James Lowasa were sworn in on Friday in a colourful event in Isiolo.
The Jubilee candidate clinched the Isiolo governor seat after garnering 28,946 votes.
Guyo and Lowasa signed a certificate of inauguration as he received the respective county symbols, including the flag, coat of arms, the Constitution, and the public seal, a sign of transfer of power and authority.
