[PHOTOS] Voting underway in different polling stations

Voting is ongoing in Mombasa, Kakamega and in four constituencies and two wards.

Voting in areas where the exercise was postponed on August 9 was held on Monday, August 29. 

Most polling stations opened on time at 6am. 

In Mombasa and Kakamega, voters went to the polls to elect a new governors. 

Elections were also being held in Rongai, Kitui Rural, Pokot South and Kacheliba constituencies.

Elections for Member of County Assembly in Nyaki West in North Imenti constituency in Meru county and Kwa Njenga in Embakasi South constituency in Nairobi county were also held on Monday.

Mombasa county has over 600,000 registered voters but the exercise was marred by a low voter turnout.

Faky Mohammed, a polling officer, said that compared to last general election, the voter turnout in Mombasa was low.

"Last election we had people on the queue by 7.30am but today the case is different. We opened at 6am and we have received 14 people," he said.

IEBC officials, however, remained hopeful that turnout in Mombasa would improve with time.
