A Kibera magistrate has criticised a man found guilty of throwing six-month-old twins from his bed to the floor occasioning them injuries on the leg and the brain.

Senior principal magistrate E Riany, after reading the judgment to Fredrick Okello, demanded to know why he injured the twins and if his act was in any way related to some traditional culture.

She said some cultures link firstborn twins to curses.

“You are not a good father, the father is supposed to provide fatherly love to his children but you failed to do so," the magistrate ruled.

"The court found that the kids never fell from the bed but it was you who threw them down. You are a reckless, violent and a non-responsible father."

The magistrate also questioned Okello why he took too long to take the children to the hospital, why he attacked his wife and stepped on her neck.

“The children was attacked after 10am and were taken to the hospital the following day. When your wife asked you why you caused them injuries you decided to beat her up and stepped on her neck,” she said.

In the case, Okello is said to have attacked the two minors at their house in Langata subcounty within Nairobi county.

He is said to have unlawfully done grievous harm to the children on July 10 contrary to the penal code.

The wife also testified in court that she was married to the man for one and a half years.

She said the man started mistreating her when she was pregnant but never reported the matter to the police.

The wife further said she decided to learn how to make samosa after a friend advised her due to the suffering she was going through at the hands of the accused person.

She said the accused at one point took the children to his bedroom and closed the door from inside.

The magistrate directed that a probation report be filed in court ahead of the sentencing on early next month.
