Police in Kisii are holding a Kisii University student who was found in possession of several rolls of bhang.
Police found at least 37 rolls of the drug on Kibiego Kiprop during a search conducted on Wednesday night at his rental house outside the campus in Nyamage area.
Three other students suspected to be his accomplices are on the run.
Police said the agricultural extension studies student will be arraigned on Friday.
Area assistant chief Sara Mokua said they acted on a tip off before conducting a raid.
The incident comes a day after the university Chaplain Lawrence Nyaanga warned of a rise of criminal activities around the institution.
Nyaanga who was speaking to journalists at the Campus on Wednesday evening asked security agents to be vigilant against elements causing lawlessness in Mwembe and Nyamage areas.
Elsewhere in Nyatieko, Kitutu Chache South, a middle aged man is fighting for his life after a fellow boda boda operator attacked him on suspicion that he was dating his estranged wife.
The victim was identified as Duke Momanyi aged 27.
He is receiving treatment at Etanda Hospital, relatives said.
The assailant, Edward Atambo, 21, reportedly hit him on the head with a metal bar leaving him for dead.
Police said the suspect is in custody.
