President William Ruto on Friday presided over the Kenya Defense Forces Day at Laikipia Airbase.
KDF Day is an annual celebration that is done to commemorate KDF soldiers' bravery and sacrifice in the line of duty.
This day is also used to remember and honour the fallen KDF heroes who have paid the ultimate price while defending the country.
The theme for the 11th anniversary was 'Enhancing Peace and Security through Civil-Military Cooperation.
The day is celebrated on October 14. This special day has been observed since October 2012 following the launch of Operation Linda Nchi in October 2011.
The event is the first military occasion that Ruto is presiding over as president.
During the event, the officers' ranks are displayed on the shoulder.
The KDF has a meritocracy system where one has to pass promotional examinations, be disciplined and have integrity to be considered for the next rank.
