Mara Education Trust chairman Andrew Sunkuli has thanked President William Ruto for appointing Katoo ole Metito as State House Comptroller.

Sunkuli, who was Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka's preferred running mate in the lead up to the August polls said the appointment is a honour to the Maa community.

"We acknowledge with gratitude the appointment of Hon. Katoo Ole Metito. The Maa nation has received this news very warmly indeed," Sunkuli said in a press statement on Sunday.

"We have taken note of his generous gestures which began with nomination of two distinguished Maasai women to the Senate, followed by the nomination of Soipan Tuya to the Cabinet and now the appointment of Katoo Ole Metito to a position of absolute trust as State House Comptroller."

Sunkuli noted that the gesture by the head of State may well have laid the ground for constructive engagement between the Maa people and the Kenya Kwanza administration.

"By nature, the Maa are a grateful people and having suffered a century of neglect and marginalisation. Any act of generosity to them, any deliberate gesture to mainstream the community in the national conversation will be rewarded handsomely in due course," he said.

Sunkuli used the opportunity to urge Soipan and Metito to strive for excellence and fair play in their service of the Kenyan people.

His sentiments came when most of the Maa leaders who supported Azimio la Umoja in the last polls started shifting political goal posts saying that Kenyans should support Ruto to achieve the agenda he has for this country.

A fortnight ago, the business community in the Maasai region commended President Ruto for nominating Soipan Tuya as the new CS for Environment and Forestry.

Led by chairman of Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry in five Maa regions David Mpatiany, they said Soipan is now the first woman to be appointed to the Cabinet.

Mpatiany said the appointment shows that the President has confidence in women leadership and making women equal partners in his government.

"We are really grateful for the appointment and this has proved that the President values the Maa community," Mpatiany said.

He said the community will support the head of State and ensure he delivers what he has for the country.

"Now that the electioneering period is over and it is now time to work, I urge all the people despite their political affiliations to support our President and the government so as to improve the lives of millions of Kenyans," he said.
