Two people have died in a tragic road accident in Machakos County.

A motorcycle rider and his pillion passenger died after their motorcycle collided with a car.

Machakos sub-county police commander Moss Ndhiwa said the duo died on the spot after a motorcycle they were riding on was hit by a car on Saturday.

The accident occurred along Machakos – Kangundo road near AIC Kisooni church in Mumbuni.

“The accident happened this morning. We, unfortunately, lost a rider and his pillion passenger,” Ndhiwa told the Star on the phone.

The motorcycle was moving towards Machakos town while the vehicle was headed towards Kangundo direction when the incident happened.

The vehicle’s driver, according to police, sustained minor injuries while both the vehicle and motorcycle were extensively damaged.

The bodies were moved to Machakos Level 5 Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem, while the wreckages were towed to Machakos police station awaiting inspection.

Ndhiwa said the accident was caused by overspeeding.

He warned motorists against flouting traffic rules and urged them to be patient while on the road.

“Let motorists drive carefully, they should adhere to traffic rules and regulations,” Ndhiwa said.

The police boss warned that those found flouting traffic rules and regulations will be dealt with accordingly.
