The Media Council of Kenya has joined other media groups in calling for an investigation into the murder of Pakistani journalist Arshad Mohammed Sharif.
In a statement by the MCK CEO David Omwoyo, the organization said there was a need to probe the murder and get all facts concerning the same.
"The Council is calling upon the government to establish the facts around the killing and conduct a proper judicial investigation," Omwoyo said.
He pointed out that the killing, which the police termed as a case of "mistaken identity", comes at a time when journalists worldwide mark the IDEI.
The International Day to End Impunity Against Journalists (IDEI) will be held on November 2.
It was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) during its 68th session in 2013.
Sharif was shot dead, in the head, by GSU officers on Sunday night at Kajiado County along the Nairobi-Magadi highway.
Police claim the car he was travelling in, was similar to a car they were pursuing, which was reportedly hijacked and a child from Pangani taken hostage.
The officers said Sharif's car arrived at the roadblock and failed to stop, prompting a chase and shooting.
Speaking earlier on Monday at Chiromo University Mortuary, Pakistani High Commissioner to Kenya Saqlain Syeda said Sharif was shot twice.
The bullets hit his shoulder and head, with the bullet that hit the head leaving a deep wound.
