Ex-governor Ongwae, Ong'era officially quit ODM

They said there is time and season for everything.

Former Kisii governor James Ongwae and ex-county Woman Representative Janet Ong'era have officially quit Raila Odinga's ODM party citing "ill treatment ".

The two announced on Thursday they will chart their own course which they said "takes care of the interests of the Kisii community".

"Watch this space," Ong'era said at a press briefing at a Nairobi hotel on Thursday.

"We have today arrived at this decision having carefully taken stock of the activities preceding the last general election and more so the ill manner the party treated us and our supporters through political patronage by individuals who never had the interest of our community at heart," said Ongwae.

The ex-governor said the country is at a stage where individuals should join progressive minded leaders and parties that focus on unity and collective decision-making in the affairs that affect society.

"As the Holy Bible says in Ecclesiastes 3:1, 'there is a time and season for everything', and for us it is time to exit," Ongwae said.

It was not immediately clear whether they will join President William Ruto's UDA party or another outfit in the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

The two leaders had immediately Ruto's victory was affirmed by the Supreme Court held talks with the President at Karen.

They were initially key pillars of Raila's ODM and Azimio la Umoja in Gusiiland.

Under Ongwae's watch as then Kisii governor the ODM party won all the five by-elections that were held in the county.
