Interior Principal Secretary nominee Raymond Omollo has laughed off comparisons with Kanu era Internal Security PS Hezekiah Oyugi saying he is his own man.

Omollo’s surprise appointment elicited talk on social media that Nyanza would finally produce an influential person after 31 years since Oyugi’s time.

The former PS (deceased) was at that time the most powerful person in the country after the late President Daniel Moi.

Kenyans on social relived Oyugi's days after President William Ruto named Omollo as his pick to take over from Karanja Kibicho.

The outgoing PS was equally hailed as one of the most powerful individuals in the President Uhuru Kenyatta administration.

But Omollo dismissed the assertions saying the job he has been assigned would not change his personality.

“I am Raymond Omollo. I am not going to change from who I am today in terms of the character of how I would want to influence things,” he told the Star in an interview on Thursday.

“I would want to be judged on account of how effective I have been in terms of discharging my duties, and also on account of how many I have mentored.”

Omolo said the most important bit, for him, is how many people would stand up and acknowledge the difference he’d make on the post.

“When all is said and done, it would be about how many people can stand up and say that they have been able to make a difference in others' lives on account of how my leadership behaves,” he said.

The Interior PS nominee, 43, is a step away from assuming the role, should MPs approve his nomination to the powerful docket.
