Governor Nyong'o to officially open the assembly on Tuesday

The governor will have an opportunity to present his manifesto.

Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o is set to officially address the Kisumu county assembly on Tuesday afternoon.

This will be the first time the governor will address the leaders officially within the chambers after his re-election to the position for a second term.

 

It will be an official opening of the Assembly where the governor will have an opportunity to present his manifesto.

This will include his plans for the county in the next five years as well as his expectations on the assembly side.

Later, no other business shall be considered but his speech will be tabled by the Leader of Majority thereafter followed by a notice of motion to debate his speech by the members of the assembly for not more than four sittings following Wednesday's sitting.

Governor Nyong'o during his campaigns launched a manifesto with agriculture, health and sanitation top on his development agenda.

Nyong’o in his manifesto ‘dubbed building the future on the foundation we have laid’ pledged to revitalise agriculture for food security and agribusiness.

He planned to provide resources to put more land under production in Nyando, Kisumu East, Muhoroni, Nyakach, Kisumu West and Seme sub-counties

He added that he will revamp rice production, processing and marketing

The governor also pledged to harness fish production initiatives and catalyze private investment in cage fish production by ensuring the sustainability of the 2,315 earthen ponds with an investment of Sh 260 million.

This comes even as the county is facing a crisis following the deaths of fish in cages across the county.

From the 1st assembly, a total of Six former MCAs were re-elected, they include James Were (Nyalenda B), Moses Ochele (East Kano/Wawidhi), James Omollo (West Nyakach), Kelvin Oraro (Kolwa Central), Nereah Okombo (Manyatta B) and Pamela Oyoo (Migosi).

Of the 35 ward reps who were elected in 2017, only nine retained their seats, they include Seth Kanga (Market/Milimani), Joakim Oketch (Kondele), Gard Olima (South West Nyakach), Habil Nyasuna (Masogo/ Nyang'oma), Seth Okumu (East Seme), Vincent Jagongo (North West Kisumu), Maurice Ngeta (Awasi/Onjiko) and Oiko Pete (Kabonyo Kanyagwal).

Jennifer Obonyo (South West Kisumu) who served as nominated MCA ran and won on the ODM ticket.
