A 35-year-old mother who delivered triplets at Bomet county last week has appealed for support to help raise her children.
Winny Rotich, who is unemployed, gave birth to three healthy boys at Chebangang health centre in the Konoin sub-county.
She is from Kolongei village in the Chebangang location. Winny said that they now have 11 children together with her husband Sammy Rotich with the entrant of triplets.
While expressing her joy over the bundle of the triple blessings, Winny is thankful for safe delivery and calls on the well-wishers to come to her aid saying she is poor.
“I am happy with the blessing of three children but to be honest I did not expect the blessings to be in threes. My challenges now are how to feed and shelter them and yet we have another eight children who we are struggling to pay school fees for,” she said.
She spoke to the Star on the phone. She added that their family has been depending on menial jobs on a daily basis to sustain them since her partner is not employed.
The mother said the source of the family was made worse during the time COVID-19 struck the country and the world at large as most of the casual labour jobs were hard to get.
“I am calling on friends, neighbours, leaders from both county and national governments to come to our aid and assist us to sustain our children during this crucial time in their lives,” Winny said.
Nicholas Korir, Chebangang sub-ward administrator, who hailed from the area where the woman hails, also pleaded for help.
“These babies need clothes and milk. I was with them during the delivery. Their health is good but their mother Is not able to produce enough milk to breastfeed them. Despite this challenge, other children need food and school fees for them to continue with their learning,” he remarked.
He added that the family house is in deplorable conditions that cannot sustain the upbringing of the young babies.
“The family lives at the edge of poverty and the despair and the caring of the triplets will be overwhelmed and urgent measures need to be done by the volunteering people to ensure that they get the basic needs,” he said.
