MPs from Kisii and Nyamira counties are holed up in crisis talks in Naivasha, hours after the community's two candidates lost in the East African Legislative Assembly elections.

The lawmakers drawn from across Kenya Kwanza and Azimio la Umoja coalitions retreated on Thursday evening immediately Parliament concluded the elections.

The Star has established that at least 16 Mps from the community-both nominated and elected-have attended the meeting which will end later on Friday.

However, North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko refused to confirm the agenda of the meeting saying they will issue a statement afterwards.

“Yes we have a meeting in Naivasha...that is all I can say for now,” the MP said.

There are reports that the MPs convened the session in protest after both coalitions ganged up to lock the Gusii community's nominees for EALA during plenary elections.

City lawyer and businessman Okeng'o Nyambane and ODM national treasurer Timothy Bosire lost in the elections after days of intense lobbying and caucusing.

“We have been taken for granted for far too long, it is time we spoke in one voice and consolidated our agenda and political position,” an MP told the Star from Naivasha.

Those who sailed through from Azimio are Winnie Odinga, Kennedy Musyoka, Suleiman Shabal, Kanini Kega.

Kenya Kwanza had Falhada Iman, David Sankok, Zipporah Kering', Mwangi Maina, Hassan Omar.

After the meeting, it is understood, the MPs will line up a series of consultative engagements with opinion leaders from the community.

“For instance, how do you explain the fact that Bosire who is the most loyal ODM member and national leader would be denied the opportunity,' protested another MP.

The new push by Gusii leaders could jolt President William Ruto's game plan to consolidate the community ahead of his 2027 reelection bid.

It would also significantly erode ODM leader Raila's Odinga's massive support in the region as well as hurt his efforts to firm up his grip on Nyanza region.

Only weeks ago, the community also lost out in President Ruto's Principal Secretary nominations, triggering a major uproar among the community leaders.

Leaders have insisted that past presidents have always given the community at least a minister and between 2 and 4 PSs.
