Lamu Senator Joseph Githuku has accused KWS of giving a blind eye to the human-wildlife conflict in the county.

Presenting his statement in Parliament, Githuku said wild animals have persistently invaded farms and residential areas with no action from KWS.

"Explain the reason for the failure by the KWS in dealing with the menace, in view of the destruction of food crops and properties in the area," Githuku said.

He said Mkunumbi, Bahari and Hongwe wards have been mostly affected by the incidents.

He requested for an apprise by the Senate on the number of compensation claims filed in Lamu county in the financial years 2021-2022 and 2022-2023.

Githuku also insisted on the claims providing a list of all salutary claims indicating the nature of compensation, the year of the claim, the year the claim was filed and the amounts paid in the respective claims.

Lastly, he urged the KWS to undertake a rigorous assessment of the matter and provide target measures that will avert similar cases in future.
