Lawyer and political analyst Danstan Omari has said GMO is not a new thing, only that Kenyans have a habit of resisting things at first.
Speaking in an interview with Citizen on Monday, Omari said the GMO concept has been investigated scientifically all over.
"We are a peculiar people, we will always oppose everything just because it must be opposed and we will always reject," he said.
Omari said people had rejected the Covid-19 vaccine, with all sorts of opinions about it.
"When the Covid jabs came, people were saying whoever takes it, within six months will turn to a monkey and none has. People rejected and others died," he said.
Omari also said Kenyans resisted family planning when it was first introduced but after a while they warmed up to it and saw it's beneficial.
"When it came to this country, there was massive resistance but now people are using it," he said.
The lawyer said Kenyans should learn to give more grace without criticism.
"Let us not weep national emotions in terms of refusing to move forward, we must move forward technologically to where the world has reached," he said.
In October, the government opened the gates for the importation and use of GMOs.
A statement by President William Ruto said the move was made after considering many factors, including experts and technical reports on the adoption of biotechnology.
The issue has been receiving backlash from the opposition as they do not agree to the matter.
