Lamu Island located in Lamu County is set to hold its 20th Annual Cultural Festival beginning this Thursday, November 24, 2022.
The festival is said to be one of the world’s most famous Cultural festivals recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
“I want to take this opportunity to invite Kenyans from all parts of the Republic and nationals from other countries for the 3-day cultural festival."
"This will be a festival of its kind and we have a number of activities that will be undertaken in the sea and other cultural activities that will be of interest to thousands of domestic and foreign tourists,” Lamu Governor Issa Timamy said.
Timamy who doubles as ANC Party Leader said his administration is devoted to promoting peace and coexistence through enhancing the Lamu Cultural Industry.
He added they are highlighting the rich cultural heritage of Lamu citizens to the entire nation and the world.
The Cultural Festival has been themed “Celebrating our diversities”.
Timamy said it is a moment that will help in understanding that having a country with many tribes is a strength and not a weakness.
“If people come and we showcase all these various cultures and talents of our various tribes that reside in Lamu peacefully then this will ultimately be an indication that coming together as a people is a sign of unity and strength in diversity,” he said.
“Lamu women are good cooks and we want our visitors to sample the delicious food prepared by the Lamu women during this cultural festival."
Timamy said Lamu is a World Heritage site and the cultural festival offers an insight into how life in the old days was in terms of architecture and lifestyle.
