Pokot South MP David Pkosing has said the country is now aware of who the Agriculture Cabinet Secretary is.
"I am happy about Mithika Linturi's response, he has now shown the country who is in charge," he said.
Speaking in Parliament, Pkosing said farmers can now sell their maize peacefully without threats.
"The CS has said the importation will be reviewed in February, now farmers all over the place are aware of who is in charge of Agriculture," he said.
The legislator was responding to Trade CS Moses Kuria who had on Saturday said if farmers do not release hoarded maize, the government will be forced to import.
He said they have 72 hours to bring out the maize in their storage, by Tuesday.
If by the time they will not have adhered to the directive, the cabinet may be forced to allow the importation of maize.
"Mkitoa mahindi mimi najua mambo itakuwa sawa. Tunaelekea mwezi ya tatu na tutaendelea kuomba mvua imyeshe," he said. ("If you stop hoarding maize, I know things will be better. We're going to March and we will keep praying that the rains come.")
