Cherera shouldn't have resigned if she was honest - MP Barasa

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has said that there was no reason for IEBC vice chairperson Juliana Cherera to resign if she was doing the right thing.

In a statement on Monday, the legislator said that Cherera's resignation was an indication that she did something wrong.

"If Juliana Cherera was doing the right thing then she shouldn't have resigned. Her resignation indicate that she was not doing the right thing as by the Constitution. Let the law takes it course," he said.

Cherera, on Monday wrote to President William Ruto, notifying him of her resignation.

"It is with immense woe that today I tender my resignation as commissioner and vice chairperson of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission," the letter reads .

Cherera's resignation comes days after commissioner Justus Nyang'aya resigned.

“It is with a heavy heart that I tender my resignation as a commissioner of the IEBC effective today (Friday),” Nyang'aya said in a letter to President Ruto.

The four commissioners are accused of attempting to subvert the will of the people with regard to the August 9 general elections.

The other two commissioners are Irene Masit and Francis Wanderi.

The four disowned results that were announced by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati.

Ruto further appointed a nine-member tribunal chaired by Court of Appeal Judge Aggrey Muchelule to probe the suspended commissioners.

Other members of the team include Carolyne Kamende Daudi, Mathew Njaramba Nyabena and Col (Rtd) Saeed Khamis, Kibet Kirui Emmanuel, and Irene Tunta Nchoe as joint secretaries.
