Alphonse Mukwaiyu has been declared winner of the just concluded Kyome Thaana ward by-election.
Mwingi West returning officer John Mwawasi declared Mukwaiyu the winner after he garnered 2,365 votes with the second candidate, David Mwende getting 1,495.
"Alphonse Mukwaiyu Musyimi has been duly elected as the member of the county assembly for Kyome Thaana ward in the Kitui by-election held on December 8," Mwawasi said.
Mwende served as the first MCA in 203-2017. The former MCA, Alex Wambua did not battle for the seat.
Wambua dropped the MCA bid and vied for Mwingi West MP under UDA, where he lost to Charles Nguna who was elected for the second time.
Speaking after his win, Mukwaiyu lauded residents for electing him stating he will deliver to all electorates, even those who didn't vote him.
"I will work with Governor Julius Malombe's administration to ensure residents get development," he said.
Mukwaiyu further said he will always indulge residents in public participation forums for them to table developmental plans for the ward.
Total registered voters in the Mwingi West ward are 14,979.
The ward had 47 polling centers with 11 candidates battling for the seat.
IEBC postponed the election following death of Tujibebe candidate, Stanley Muthengi moments after being cleared to vie, six months ago.
