Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has acknowledged President William Ruto's decision to have a theme for Jamhuri Day, which will be celebrated on Monday.

On Tuesday, Ruto said national holidays will be themed going forward, to highlight the strides made in achieving national aspirations during such celebrations.

Announcing the theme for December 12, the President said, "we started at the right place. At innovation and technology."

The celebrations will be themed 'Innovation Jamhuri Day'.

"Instead of inviting the usual people who we invite, I have decided to invite our technology leaders worldwide from Facebook and Google to share the opportunities that exist in the world that is increasingly becoming digitalised," Ruto said.

In a statement on Sunday, Ngunyi described it as a "good idea" with a vision.

"This #InnovationJamhuri good idea. One day Ruto asked me why NYS servicemen were carrying spades instead of computers. There is a vision here," he said.

On Monday, the government will offer free technology scholarships for adults who will attend the Jamhuri Day celebrations at Nyayo Stadium.

Interior PS Raymond Omollo said the certificate course scholarships will be open for eligible adults who will attend the celebrations in person.

"The National Celebrations Committee led by PS Omollo has announced free technology scholarships for certification courses for any eligible adult attending the celebrations in person at the Nyayo Stadium on Monday," the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

"This is a bid to make Kenya the top talent of the world and the region in the Technology and Digital Economy,"

The state has been working to digitalise the country, having launched virtual desktops at Kabete National Polytechnic on Tuesday.

On Saturday, ICT CS Eliud Owalo launched the innovation exhibition at KICC, where he said the government was working to transform Kenya into a world-class society and Africa's digital capital.
