A four-year child and an elderly man were killed when a matatu they were travelling in collided with a personal car a few metres away from Kithyoko trading centre in Machakos county.
The matatu that was travelling along the Nairobi-Thika-Mwingi- Garissa road on Saturday had an unknown number of passengers at the time of the accident.
Several other people were injured and were taken to Mwingi Level Four Sub County Hospital and Kithyoko health centre respectively for treatment.
It was not immediately established what exactly caused the accident.
Efforts to reach Migwani OCPD Kazungu Charo for comment were fruitless.
Some witnesses gave accounts that the matatu was headed to Mwingi from Nairobi while the car was headed towards Nairobi at the time of the collision.
The about-noon accident caused a heavy traffic snarl up with the police being forced to redirect traffic when they arrived at the scene.
