Wakoli to be sworn in as Bungoma Senator Friday

Wakoli garnered 66,032, Mwambu Mabonga of UDA got 45,901.

Bungoma Senator-elect David Wakoli Wafula will be sworn into office on Friday, December 30 2022.

The Senate Speaker Amason Kingi on Wednesday gazetted December 30 for the sitting.

Kingi said that in accordance with Standing order 33(5) of the Senate Standing Orders, the business specified the notice shall be the only business before the Senate during the Special Sitting.

"....following which, the Senate shall stand adjourned until Tuesday, 14th February 2023, at 2.30 p.m. when the Senate shall continue," the notice reads.

Wakoli of Ford Kenya party was declared winner of the Bungoma senate seat on December 9.

The by-election was conducted on December 8. The race attracted 11 contestants.

Wakoli garnered 66,032, Mwambu Mabonga of UDA got 45,901 while Wafula Wamunyinyi of DAP-K got 20,519.

Wakoli thanked residents for allowing him to replace National assembly speaker Moses Wetang’ula as the senator.

The senator applauded Wetang’ula for supporting his bid.

“ Wetang’ula held my hand throughout my political life. I promise to go in and act like him, present issues and represent Bungoma people,” he said.
